Chair Talk: Daiwa Pegasus 2

Hey, and thanks for coming to read about the Daiwa Pegasus 2. We are looking to give our opinion on the massage chair model, whether positive or negative, and are not willing to hold our tongue necessarily.

Let’s talk about it.

The Pegasus 2 is a massage chair sold by Daiwa. Priced at an MSRP of $11,000, it boasts a wide variety of features. Its predecessor, the Pegasus, was released three years before the release of Pegasus 2, and is priced at an MSRP of $10,000. However, not much has changed between the two iterations.

There are a handful of differences between the two. The Pegasus 2, being a newer model, has more features to its name, mainly the addition of a voice-recognition system and space-saving design. Other than that, there are no obvious differences between the two models. So now that we’ve briefly covered the differences, the chair comes with a variety of features. The Pegasus 2 comes equipped with 3D technology, and is programmed with 9 different automatic programs with adjustable timing. Like most chairs, it features zero-gravity, lumbar heating, and footrest extension. It boasts a count of 48 air cells, which are located all along the length of the chair to cover most of the body.

Despite similarities to other massage chairs, the chair and its predecessor both feature an innovating design for extending shoulders, as the massage chair is designed to adjust for shoulder width, allowing for more people of varying sizes to fit into the massage chair. This is a huge plus in our books, as a massage chair should be available for more people, so having a massage chair, that fits a wider range of people than other massage chairs, makes it more desired.

Now let’s go back to the voice-recognition system. On paper, that is amazing. Being able to tell your massage chair to start a program or move more slowly makes its convenience that much better. However, from our time with working within the industry, we can’t fully place our trust in any voice-recognition system. It isn’t always reactive 100% of the time to voices, which can be critical for people with disabilities or injuries, who would buy the Pegasus 2 for the voice system. But of course, that is when it doesn’t want to work. Having a high failure rate for voice recognition seems unacceptable since the main cost difference between the Pegasus 2 and its predecessor is more than likely due to its voice recognition system. Until voice recognition systems improve, it seems more like a gimmick feature with a small addition to your convenience.

Now, don’t take it the wrong way. The Daiwa Pegasus 2 is a solid massage chair with a variety of features that many massage chairs will feature, while including a feature of adjustable body sizes. However, with the voice recognition system being a main point of interest in their marketing, the Pegasus 2 Smart Massage Chair seems to be lack luster in its comparison to other massage chairs—in our eyes. But then again, this is our take and opinion of the chair. After all, this is Chair Talk, where we plan to breakdown specific chairs, and give you our expert opinions on it. Let us know if you’d like a specific chair for us to breakdown—we’d love to hear your thoughts.
